Google to Chrome users: Delete these 16 popular extensions right now
TIMESOFINDIA.COM | Mar 2, 2025, 05.36 PM IST

Google Chrome users are being urged to uninstall 16 popular extensions recently identified as security risks. The affected extensions, which include tools for screen capture, ad blocking, and emoji keyboards, have been found to inject harmful scripts into browsers, potentially compromising user data and facilitating search-engine fraud.
The warning comes after GitLab Threat Intelligence reported that these extensions, which collectively have over 3.2 million users, were hijacked by a prolific "threat actor." The malicious updates allowed hackers to steal user data and engage in fraudulent activities by injecting unauthorised advertisements and manipulating web traffic.
