WWE presenter Pat McAfee is set to clash with Gunther at WWE Backlash 2025 after a shocking attack on Monday Night Raw. Following this incident, Gunther has faced major repercussions for his actions on the April 21st edition of RAW after attacking Michael Cole and legendary commentator Pat McAfee.
It has come to light that after losing the World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41, Gunther turned up very furious on RAW, which led to his suspension, and the company had heavily fined the WWE star for his actions.
However, after a shocking on-air attack by Gunther, McAfee will now face “The Ring General” at WWE Backlash 2025 in a high-stakes grudge match for which he has been preparing and training.

Pat McAfee has recently provided an update on his preparation for his upcoming bout against
Gunther at the WWE Backlash event, which is slated to start on May 10, 2025, in St. Louis. As per reports, this will be McAfee’s first official match after his impromptu victory over
The Miz at WrestleMania 39.
Pat has revealed details about his training for the upcoming official WWE bout on the Pat McAfee Show. He showed off his wrestling ring that he bought years ago, noting that he feels good ahead of the match. In the interview, McAfee revealed, “I’ve already been doing some flips, I’ve already done some bumps, I’m already feeling pretty good. Cardio is in a spot, I think is better than it has been before.”
The WWE commentator has also expressed his desire to receive training under Big Poppa Pump, so that he can give him some advice ahead of his match against Gunther. He said, "Big Poppa Pump, I’d like to extend a formal invitation for whatever you want to get over here. I don’t know if I can build any of the pumps that you have. But if you wanna come here and give me some strategies, some tips and thoughts, tidbits—maybe work me through some things against Gunther," he said. (H/T: Ringside News)
Initially, Gunther was fined heavily and suspended from appearing on WWE shows for an indefinite period. But it was McAfee who requested SmackDown
General Manager Nick Aldis to lift Gunther’s suspension and make this match happen.
