India A squad announced for England tour, Abhimanyu Easwaran named captain
NEW DELHI: India A's squad for the upcoming red-ball tour of England was announced on Friday, featuring a mix of Test regulars and promising domestic performers. The team, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, will play two four-day matches against the England Lions — the first in Canterbury from May 30, followed by a second match in Northampton from June 6.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Ishan Kishan are among the notable inclusions, while Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan will join for the second game. Gill is widely expected to take over as India’s Test captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement.

The A squad will also play an intra-squad match against the senior Indian team in Beckenham from June 13 to 16, as part of the preparation for the five-Test series in England starting June 20 in Leeds.
Who's that IPL player?
The squad features several IPL players from teams that have missed or are unlikely to reach the playoffs. Karun Nair returns after eight years, while left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey — this season’s Ranji Trophy standout with 69 wickets — earns his maiden call-up.
Sarfaraz Khan, Harshit Rana, and Akash Deep are also part of the touring party, with eyes on national team selection during this transitional phase for India.

Suryakumar, who is the most skillful strokemaker of all Indian batsmen, past and present, should have been blooded into captaincy in the longer version of the game also, via this tour on swing-prone English wickets. He brings the much needed aggro into the dull, boring game that is Test cricket.Read allPost comment
