Riley Madison Ladner, 22, never imagined she’d have a twin from over a century ago—let alone in a famous painting.
As per the report by the New York Post, the content creator from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, was stunned when a stranger on TikTok messaged her about her uncanny resemblance to a 1909 painting called At the Dressing Table by Russian artist Zinaida Serebriakova.

At first, Riley brushed it off. But as more and more people started pointing it out, she got curious and decided to look up the artwork.
What she saw left her speechless.

The painting shows a young woman with loose, dark hair sitting at a dressing table—and the resemblance was almost eerie. From the facial features to the hair and even the nightgown, it looked just like her.
“It was very chilling – almost unnerving because it was so similar,” Riley said. Even her husband was shocked when he saw it. “Oh my gosh, you have a nightgown just like that!” he told her.
That’s when Riley decided to recreate the look for a TikTok video. She didn’t even have to buy anything—the nightgown was already part of her wardrobe.
The internet quickly went wild with theories, with some joking that Riley could be the reincarnation of the woman in the painting. Others suggested she might be related to the artist. Now, she’s even considering taking a DNA test to see if there’s a deeper connection.
“I’d love to do a DNA test just for fun,” Riley said. “It would be so interesting to see if there’s any link or if it’s just pure coincidence.”

‘At the Dressing-Table’ is a Self-Portrait, a 1909 painting by Russian artist Zinaida Serebriakova. The artwork is part of the Tretyakov Gallery collection in Moscow. Serebriakova painted this self-portrait in 1909 while living near Neskuchnoye, Kursk Governorate (now part of Ukraine). She later described the setting, recalling how winter arrived early that year, covering the landscape in snow, but her home was comfortable, allowing her creativity to flow.
Serebriakova sent At the Dressing-Table to Saint Petersburg, where it was displayed at the 7th exhibition of the Union of Russian Artists. The exhibition initially opened in Moscow before moving to Saint Petersburg in early 1910.
